Wallingford resident Pierce Shortell, 31, a former employee at Manfredi Jewels in New Canaan surrendered himself at the New Canaan Police Department on Monday afternoon on an active arrest warrant for first-degree grand larceny following the investigation into the theft of the Rolex watches.
Shortell was arrested on July 14 last year and charged with first-degree grand larceny in connection to the theft of an estimated $150,000 in Rolex watches after employees found that the store’s inventory and sales reports did not match. Police said that the discrepancies began shortly after Shortell was hired in 2016 and ended immediately at the time of his resignation in June last year.
According to police, “the continuing and complicated investigation into the theft uncovered many other discrepancies and a completely different set of Rolex watches that were involved.”
Shortell allegedly falsified sales invoices, which were uncovered by investigators, as well as non-existent shipping addresses that were listed.
Police said that search and seizure warrants were secured and executed, which led to the recovery of several watches that appeared on the falsified invoices and were for sale on eBay.
After surrendering himself into police custody, Shortell was charged with first-degree larceny and released on $50,000 bond, following arraignment. Police said that the investigation for additional watches that are still missing in ongoing. Shortell is due back in court on April 9 to answer the new charge against him.
